Hello Debbie, you did a fabulous job !!!! Sharon and I had a simply marvelous vacation. Here is what you did exceptionally well and what I really appreciated.
First, just two weeks out, I sought your help to pull together an out-of-country trip at the last minute. Your assistant and you jumped to make it happen. I had a call from your assistant within 24 hours of my email asking me about my trip preferences. When I talked to your assistant and then I talked/wrote to you, I spoke/wrote in specific generalities of the vacation I was seeking, i.e., I first wanted to relax and un-wind for a few days and then get out and see and experience the country. You and your assistant listened. Then you proposed a plan that did just that!
Portofino was a perfect spot to sit and relax and listen to the lapping of the waves on the beach in front of our cabana. Small, private, quiet, clean, and not pompously luxurious but beautifully Belizean. We met the owners, got to know the staff personally, and made some wonderful friendships around the pool …. with whom we did an all-day excursion snorkeling with the sharks and enjoying a private b-bq on a deserted island. We spent another day strolling San Pedro. The other two days we lolled around the pool and sat alongside the sandy beach. Your recommendation of Portofino was right on the money!
And then Chaa Creek. Chaa Creek was even better! The staff was exceptionally and personally attentive without ever being stiff and phony as is often the case at 5-star resorts. And you arranged for an upgrade that really sweetened our stay. And the birthday cake you arranged! It was such a surprise for Sharon, and it was reaaaallllllly a great cake!
Our all-day excursion to Tikal was incredible, and our four side excursions (night nature walk, off-site 1/2 day excursion to Cahal Peche, the medicine trail, and a sunset canoe ride on the Macal river) were so enriching and the guides were so knowledgeable. My only regret is that we did not spend another day or so at Chaa.
Debbie, you did a marvelous job. There is not one thing that you and your staff could have done better. This trip exceeded my expectations, and you pulled it together at the last minute. You even managed to change Sharon’s flight from PHX to ATL to CHI to ATL without it costing us a dime. Sharon and I were so happy with our trip, that for the first time in our traveling lives we talked about a return trip to the same destination.
If I hear of family members or friends wanting to go to Belize, I will recommend they give you a call, and if Sharon and I plan a return to Belize we will give you a call. And if there are other parts of the world in which you have first-hand experience and connections, let me know.
