Kings Canyon National Park

Kings Canyon National Park is located in the High Sierras in California. A lot of  people visiting Sequoia National Park and its magnificent Giant Sequoias start down into Kings Canyon and stop as soon as they leave the forest and see the chaparral. This is a mistake because a few miles down the road you come to the Kings River and enter the beautiful Kings Canyon.

This is the only way to enter Kings Canyon, but its well worth the drive. Cedar Grove is one of the best campgrounds in the National Park system and always has nice vacant campsites and a general store. Make sure to fill your tank in Sequoia National Park before leaving, as there is no gas station in Kings Canyon.

When you get to Cedar Grove you are in the middle of the High Sierras. This means that you can be in the wilderness in any direction you hike. Fishing is good in the Kings River, however, for the serious fly fishermen a day hike will get you into some fabulous Golden Trout fishing.

There are dozens of fantastic trails leading out of Kings Canyon, so camping in in Cedar Grove is very convenient for hikers, day trippers or backpackers.

The founder of considers Kings Canyon National Park one of the best places in the country to take your family camping.
