Uvita (“Little Grape”) is 15 minutes away from Dominical by car. It is the southernmost village worth mentioning on the Pacific coast. Farmers and cowboys still live and work in individual fcncas, here called by their Mexican name ranchitas, much as they did 100 years ago.

Uvita is also the northern gateway to the mangroves and gray sand beaches of Costa Rica’s fascinating Ballena National Park. From its main street it is only three kilometers to the Rio Uvita. The beach spreads out to the southeast, fringed with palm trees and backed by steep hills.
