Playa Samara ends at the steep cliffs of Punts Indio (Indian Point). The horseshoe-shaped Playa Carillo, the southernmost beach of this region, begins at the point. Despite its lovely rows of coconut palms planted along the beach and less expensive quarters, Playa Carillo attracts few visitors because of its out-of the-way location. Even the interesting handicrafts shop under the giant fig tree on the beach is unable to attract visitors. Four kilometers east of Samara is a luxury hotel complex managed by a Japanese company, the Gunamar Beach Resort. The resort’s affluent guests prefer deep-sea sport fishing and water skiing. For fun they rent one-man kayaks and paddle out into the Pacific.
